President and Chief Executive Officer
Native of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec (Canada), André Martel holds a BA from the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi. He began his career in the aluminum industry by joining Alcan. From Quebec to British Columbia to Australia, he honed his skills at all levels of management and by getting involved in all sectors of the aluminum production. Among his other assignments, from 2006 to 2010, he is President and CEO of Tomago Aluminium, a consortium of Rio Tinto Alcan, Gove Aluminium Finance Ltd and Hydro Aluminium.
In 2010, with over 30 years’ experience in the aluminium industry, he joins Aluminerie Alouette. André Martel enjoys a wide and diverse network, both in business and in the community. His wide-ranging experience of the aluminium industry gives him a broad international insight.
André is President of the Board of Directors of the Aluminium Association of Canada (AAC), is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), and sits on the Canadian Advisory Committee of the international insurance company FM Global. He is personally involved in several community organisations and always lends a hand however he can.
