David A. Helmick is Manager – Materials Design at Carpenter Technology Corporation Research and Development. Dr. Helmick guides Carpenter’s technology vision and provides leadership in alloy design and product development. He has corporate responsibility for all of Carpenter’s alloy development and operation of the research laboratory.
Dr. Helmick has held technology development positions with General Electric Energy and Aviation. Before joining Carpenter in 2009, he was the Advanced Technology Leader for GE Aviation in the Repair Development Center. His early career at GE Energy was focused on the development of high temperature corrosion resistant coating for turbine components. Dr. Helmick has experience managing both fundamental technology development as well as leading teams that deliver solutions to customers.
Dr. Helmick earned a B.S. in materials science engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, a M.Eng. in materials science engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a Ph.D. in materials science engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, and is a graduate of the General Management Program at Harvard Business School. He sits on the technical advisory board at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Center at the University of Sheffield and has more than 20 publications and 5 patents.
