Alcoa Global Primary Products – Canada and Africa
Martin Brière started his career at Alcoa in 2007 as Manager, Engineering and Maintenance, at the Bécancour smelter. In October 2008, he was appointed Manager, Carbon, Engineering and Maintenance, and was also named Regional Leader, Maintenance and Reliability. He took the helm of the Deschambault smelter in 2010, before being appointed Vice President, Operations, in March 2012, and President, in August 2012, of the entire Alcoa Canada Global Primary Products Group. His responsibilities include the operations of the Africa region since May 2014.
Mr. Brière is also responsible for Alcoa’s Global Smelter Center of Excellence, which regroups in Québec Alcoa’s most prominent aluminum experts who develop, validate and implement best practices in aluminum production for all of Alcoa’s smelters worldwide.
In addition to his responsibilities within Alcoa, Mr. Brière has been President of the Board of Directors of the Aluminum Association of Canada since April 2014.
Before joining Alcoa, Mr. Brière held various engineering and management positions at Corus S.E.C. and Duchesne et Fils ltée.
Also noteworthy is the fact that Mr. Brière represented Alcoa as part of the Future Leaders Team of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) in 2008. The group brought together 25 upcoming leaders with high career potential from businesses around the world.
Mr. Brière holds a degree in chemical engineering from McGill University in Montréal.
